Effective Dynamic Compliance in Normal Korean

Abstract
Effective dynamic compliance (EDC) is defined as the ratio of tidal volume to peak airway pressure. A fall in EDC is clinical significance for several reasons.
The object of this study was to introduce the measuring method of EDC which is very available clinically and to determine the effects that EDC were influenced by succinyl-choline chloride(SCC) and subcutaneous fat tissue thickness.
EDC was checked on anesthetized Korean(20 men and 30 women), aging of 15-55 years and subcutaneous fat tissue thickness by Lange¢¥s skinfold caliper on 45 person(22 men and 23
women).
The determined values were as follows:
1. Average values of EDC in male and female art. as follows; Sex Age EDC(ml/cmH2O)
M 17-35 51.76¡¾4.44
36-55 52.83¡¾5.64
F 17-35 47.78¡¾5.07
36-55 45. 40¡¾7. 04
2. EDC according to age were not statistically significant in male and female.
3. There are the difference between EDC values according to methods in which the airway
pressure was applied and they are gradually increased in pressure-decreasing method.
4. EDC was not significantly changed by ordinary doses of SCC.
5. EDC according to abdominal subcutaneous fat tissue thickness were not statistically, but in
extreme t vo cases they showed decreasing tendency.
